I do not train to a syllabus or exam criteria. However, I do acknowledge achievement as it is nice to recognise the work people have put in with their dogs and the progress they have made. By training in a group you can meet lots of other dog friendly people and sometimes real friendships are forged at class. Training is a time of focus and 1-2-1 partnership with your dog. It can become a very satisfying hobby and it is lovely to stay on throughout the year, dropping in and out of classes once you have graduated.
Puppy Patrol Training Award - this is for a young puppy who has progressed to being able to do all the basic commands on lead but still needs luring and rewarding and who can recall off lead in controlled circumstances (usually on Lesson 4). Your puppy is now a Puppy Cadet * see training hints and tips page
Basic Training Award - this is for an older dog who, like the young puppy, can do all the basic commands on lead but still needs luring and rewarding but is capable of recalling off lead under controlled circumstances * see training hints and tips page
Graduate Certificate - this is for puppies and dogs who have reached the level of training that their owners are happy with and who are graduating from training.
Training Mentor - This is awarded to the handler and not the dog and the class fee is reduced in exchange for the support, advice and help that Mentors give new classmates.
Young Handler Certificate awarded to under 16 year olds to recognise the work they put in with their dogs and their competence handling their dogs in a kind and rewarding way. In fact, our young handlers range in age from 6 years old up to 14 years old so well below the 16 year old upper limit.
Gold Medal Mentor - this is awarded annually to handlers who have consistently come to class all through the year to help, support and advise classmates
