A number of recent events have caused me to post this after lying awake worrying : ALL dogs have to be microchipped by law. ALL puppies should be microchipped between the ages of 6 weeks and 8 weeks by law and registered to the breeder whether a professional or home breeder (a few exceptions but they have to be vet authorised). Puppies should not leave the litter until 8 weeks old. Whatever reasons you are given, whatever sob story you are told, whatever your heart tells you - do not accept any puppy under 8 weeks old and you must have a microchipped puppy with all documentation whether the puppy is a pedigree or a crossbreed or a mongrel. We must stamp out poor breeding practices that result in untold misery for the breeding bitch and health and behavioural problems in the puppies - microchipping goes some way towards that aim. I am hoping that one day technology will also allow the breeding bitch details to be linked to the puppy microchip so that there is a full history that can be checked.
