The latest scaremongering "news" story is about Ticks/Lyme Disease. Vets have always seen sporadic cases of Lyme disease in dogs that have been to West Wales and the New Forest for example. These areas usually have tick warning signs attached to gates and trees to alert dog owners. European tick borne diseases have been seen in the UK for YEARS, more so since the Pets Travel Scheme allowed dogs to travel. These cases have usually been in the south of England i.e. warmer regions. Any ticks found on your dog should be removed as soon as possible using a tick hook which you can usually get from your Vet or the Vet Nurse will be able to remove it for you. Preventative spot on tick products can be used monthly especially if you visit at risk areas of the country . Talk to your Vet to discuss which product is suitable for your dog. Don't give any credence to what you may read in the newspapers or hear on the radio or TV about ticks and the "latest" news.
