Yesterday and last night, 12th April, I was involved in a search for a lost dog in our area. It ended successfully with the dog being found and safely returned home.
There is no magic to getting a dog reunited and I can reveal exactly how it happens when it does work.
Teamwork
All lost dog teams and drone pilots rely on the community - in fact, the dog depends on the community.
Sharing social media posts to raise awareness
Volunteering to walk an area with organised search groups
Understanding exactly what a dog in flight is doing and thinking
How to search effectively and quietly
Putting up posters if it's an ongoing search
If anyone would like to sign up to DogLost to get email alerts for our area, we would love to have more people on board. You do as much or as little as you wish and just sharing on social media is immensely helpful too. https://www.doglost.co.uk/join.php?join=1
Via DogLost and various drone pilot groups, I tend to get involved at an early stage and put out a call on my social to get local volunteers who are not signed up to DogLost or any other organisation, helping if at all possible. My dog training school is instrumental in bringing together lots of different people to help and we normally set up a group chat to share information.
You are welcome to let me know on an individual basis when I put the call out that you are available to help - you don't have to be part of DogLost or any other organisation to help me on an ad hoc basis.
People often question me and other volunteers as to why we do it ? The reasons are varied
Paying It Back
Paying it Forward
For the love of all dogs
Because we value community spirit
Because we bloody well care
Whatever your reasons, join us !
